refbot

I reffed a photo from GIS. it was looking kind of boring so I turned the girl into a robot.

I've been working on a picture for a contest that I missed the deadline on. oh well, I'll prob finish it eventually.

monster speedpaint

I did a quick paint over the sketch. I've been watching "The Mechanics of Color with Richard Keyes" and I think it's helped me immensely. I know now that having  cooler colored figure in the foreground creates more contrast than just the tone by itself.

monster test pose

damn, it's too late for anything involved. I did do a quick non-ref test pose of the monster before bed. as you can see, I haven't decided what to do with the legs design wise. he also has very dainty feet for some reason.

another monster

I tried another sketch of it at a 3/4 view. I way overused textures to the point where I think it's now a bit too muddy, but it was fun nonetheless.

referenced sketch

normally all of my stuff from ref. is pretty bad, but I'm kinda happy with this one. I tried to create soft features using only a hard edged brush and I think it worked out all right.

Monster Design

I've been following along the a creature design tutorial by Aaron Sims from gnomon. he has some really great ideas. here's what I have so far. I have a habit of forgetting shit so I turned an easy 15 minute sketch into an hour long game of erase the underlying pattern because I used a really distinct pattern and forgot to create new layers. I was erasing too much of the lineart so I'm just going to redo the whole thing later. I like the creature itself so here it is:

Drawin' fox news

I have a really nasty spider bite on my ankle which requires me to go to the hospital daily to get the hole in my ankle repacked with gause. I was stuck there again for three hours and what do you guess they were playing on the TV in the waiting room at a military hospital? why, fox news of course! so I spent the time drawing douchey hair and fake smiles.

I DO, in fact, have a blog

Now that everyone I know has a blog besides me, I think it's finally time to jump on this bandwagon until it collapses under the weight of so many passengers. It will mostly be used to document my progress with digital art but seeing as how I'm about to move to Hawaii, I may throw a few photos up here as well.

If you stumble upon this blog, please enjoy. I'll try not to emberass myself too much. I'll start this off by adding a (mostly finished) digital painting.
